With My Young Parents — 1980s photo prompt
For an ai photo with parents young, this style needs two photos: one of you today and an older one of your parents or grandparents. It puts everyone into a single 1985 snapshot at home, each person at the age they look in their own photo. Copy it free with both photos attached, yours first, or make it here. Below is what sixteen test runs showed.

The prompt
Combine my two uploaded photos into a genuine 1985 photograph. Photo 1 is me as I am …

About this look
For a milestone, many Indian families in the mid-1980s still dressed up and went to a photo studio; according to Scroll.in, studios began losing that custom to point-and-shoot cameras only in the 1990s. At home, pictures came from simple cameras. One advertising retrospective recalls that Photophone Industries' Hot Shot, launched in the 1980s, promoted colour film over the black and white that still dominated, and that stock meant to last two seasons sold out in one. The film itself could be Indian: Hindustan Photo Films, incorporated in 1960 at Udhagamandalam, sold its rolls under the name Indu. Point-and-shoot cameras carried a built-in flash, and a common weakness of a built-in flash was low power, often too little light for a good picture beyond about three metres.

Selfies that work best
- The old photo can be worn. Sepia, black and white with scratches and a fold, and a tiny 240-pixel print all came back as clean colour faces, eleven of eleven.
- Everyone in the old photo is kept. One parent gave two people, two parents three, and a three-adult print or a couple with a child four: sixteen of sixteen.
- Each person keeps the age they look in their own photo. Users aged about 58 stayed older than parents of about 30, and a boy of six stayed six.
Where it goes wrong
- Where you stand varies. You sat between your parents in all five same-age two-parent runs, but stood at the edge in both older-user runs and one of three child runs.
- The old photo's place and clothes are not kept. Every result moved everyone indoors to one sofa and wall clock, and a hoodie or striped T-shirt became a shirt.
Real test results
All inputs are AI-generated fictional people. Photo 1 is a test selfie, one aged to about 58 by an image edit; photo 2 is an invented family, generated and then made to look like an old print. Each result is one generation on this site, cropped to this frame. We chose the damaged print, the age gap and the child test, two of them runs where you stand at the edge.

Questions about this style
- How many photos does With My Young Parents need?
- Two. The first is a clear, recent photo of you; the second is an older photo of your parents or grandparents. To use the copy-paste text in ChatGPT or Gemini, attach both, yours first; we have not tested it there. Generating here, you add both photos before you start.
- Can I stand next to my parents when they were younger than me?
- Yes, in our two tries. A test user aged about 58 was paired with a print of parents around 30, and in both results he or she stayed grey-haired and older while the parents stayed young. In both, though, the user stood at the edge rather than between them.
- Can the old photo include grandparents or a child?
- It worked in our tests. A print of three adults, one an older woman, came back as four people with her still the oldest, twice. A print of a couple with a boy of about six came back as four people in all three runs, the boy still a child. We have not tried real family prints.
